For most of my career IPv6 has been a personal afterthought. I knew the basics: the what, the how, the why, and the when; which was always “later.” However, the IPv4 shortage date is steadily growing sooner and sooner and in addition Microsoft has begun shipping all new products with IPv6 support enabled out of the box. These reasons alone are enough to at least begin your IPv6 planing – but recent media coverage has re-ignited the issue and it’s a good idea to have an answer when your boss asks you about IPv6.
